This is Shazam
Ch. CVJ's N Aj's Can't Buy Me Love
Shazam is a blue roan and tan Cocker Spaniel.
Years ago I talked to Polly Swanson a well known Roan breeder
when I first got into cockers and she was one of the few breeders
that knew information about roans and their coat type.
I started out with a blue roan and tan male from Oakridge.
One of my first roans was named Mowgli
from the Disney movie the Jungle Book.

Here is Diego who is a past roan puppy.
Who his owner has told me has been of the healthiest cockers they
ever owned!!!
Later, Mowgli was placed in a new home.
Years have went by with out any passion or interest in the roans.
Then I seen a blue roan and tan male that I just fell in love with.
He was either to go to me or Rhonda G. but something fell through
with Rhonda and can't remember the reason, but I ended up getting
him.
We named the puppy Shazam aka Sam I Am.
Who later went on and became our fourth Champion in 08.

Shazam went to stay with V & A and he became a Champion in record
time.
Shazam went to the American Spaniel Club in 2008 and was
approached by Bill and Lloyd and Polly Swanson
many others who gave Shazam fantastic compliments.
Below are some of Shazam's puppies.

This is a picture taken
of Shazam laying down.
The picture was a close up photo to show you the roan.

A blue roan and tan puppy just born.
Some puppies at birth look just like parti colors.
Others look like this which shows you right away that, "I'm A Roan".
You can see the shading on the paws, halos on the feet and the
smudge of color on face.

Piper as a puppy approx
8 weeks of age.

This puppy is a Blue Roan -
She does not have tan points so she is not a blue roan and tan.

Husker is a red roan.
To see a better photo of a red roan go to
Shazam's page, scroll down to the bottom and see
Shazam's Champion brother who is a red roan in full coat.

FYI about Roans.
Roans do not have BLUE EYES!
They are ok to breed roan to roan, but I don't recommend it.
They do not have health issues like some believe that merles have.
They are listed Roan through AKC.
It does not take two blue roans to make blue roans,
Best way to get blue roans is breed blue roan to a parti and not a
solid.
I would breed to the most open marked parti possible.
If they are bred to a closed mark parti then they seem to get
darker.
When you have a litter depending on how the litter was bred.
You could end up with blue roans, blue roan tans, red roans, brown
roans and parti's.
Blue roans when born
look like black and white but then change as weeks go bye.
That is why they call it roan progression, usually an educated eye
to know at birth.
Because of ASC not accepting merle many merles are registered
as roans which
they are not and this causes a lot of confusion in our breed today.
